You are responsible for keeping your passwords, keys, recovery codes, USB devices, and account credentials safe. LockBytes cannot recover credentials or encrypted data when the required recovery material is unavailable.

4. Loss of Passwords, Keys, or Recovery Material

LockBytes is designed so that encrypted data cannot simply be opened without the required cryptographic credentials.

If you lose or permanently delete the required password, Master Key, Recovery Code, PRC, recovery credentials, or other necessary security material, access to your encrypted files may become permanently unavailable.

LockBytes does not maintain a copy of your vault password, Master Key, or recovery credentials for the purpose of recovering your encrypted files.

You should maintain appropriate independent backups of important information and recovery materials.

If the computer or device on which LockBytes is being used is already compromised, the security of your passwords, keys, or files may also be affected.

6. No Guarantee of Data Recovery

LockBytes does not guarantee that encrypted files will always remain accessible or recoverable.

Recovery may fail because of lost credentials, damaged storage devices, corrupted files, unavailable recovery services, software failures, incompatible systems, or other circumstances outside the control of LockBytes.

You should not rely on LockBytes as your only method of protecting important data. Maintain appropriate backups of important files and recovery information.

7. Google Drive and Third-Party Services

LockBytes may provide an optional recovery feature that allows you to connect a Google account and store encrypted recovery data in Google Drive.

This feature is optional. You may use LockBytes without connecting a Google Drive account, subject to the features available in your version of the application.

Google Drive is operated by Google and is not controlled or operated by LockBytes.

Your use of Google services is subject to Google's own terms, policies, availability, and account requirements.

LockBytes cannot guarantee the availability, reliability, security, or continued operation of third-party services.

8. Your Files and Data

You retain ownership of the files and other content that you choose to encrypt or otherwise use with LockBytes.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights to access, modify, encrypt, store, or otherwise use the files you process with LockBytes.

9. Acceptable Use

You agree to use LockBytes only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.

You must not knowingly use LockBytes to facilitate unlawful activity, compromise systems without authorization, or interfere with the operation of the application or services used by it.

LockBytes is provided as a security and file-encryption tool. You are responsible for how you choose to use it.

10. Software Ownership

The LockBytes application, including its original source code, design, user interface, branding, documentation, and related materials, is owned by or licensed to the applicable rights holder.

11. Application Updates

LockBytes may provide updates that include security fixes, bug fixes, performance improvements, compatibility changes, or new features.

Certain features may require a newer version of the application.

LockBytes does not guarantee that every version will remain compatible with every operating system, device, storage system, or third-party service indefinitely.

12. Availability

LockBytes is provided without a guarantee that the application or every feature will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.

Features that depend on external services, internet connectivity, operating-system functionality, or hardware may be unavailable or may behave differently depending on those external conditions.

13. Disclaimer

LockBytes is provided as a software tool intended to assist with file encryption and security-related tasks.

While reasonable efforts may be made to maintain and improve the application, no guarantee is made that LockBytes will be completely free from bugs, vulnerabilities, interruptions, compatibility problems, or security risks.

You should evaluate whether LockBytes is appropriate for your particular use case and maintain appropriate backups of important information.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, shall not be responsible for losses arising from your use of LockBytes, including loss of data, loss of access to encrypted files, loss of passwords or recovery material, hardware failure, malware infection, or failure of third-party services.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.

15. Changes to These Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to LockBytes, applicable requirements, security practices, or other circumstances.

When the Terms are updated, the "Last Updated" date shown at the beginning of this document may also be changed.

Your continued use of LockBytes after an updated version becomes available may constitute acceptance of the updated Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.

16. Contact

If you have questions about these Terms of Use or LockBytes, you may contact the developer through the contact information provided with the application or on the official LockBytes website, where applicable.

Important Reminder

Keep your passwords, Master Key, Recovery Code, PRC, recovery account, USB device, and backups secure.

LockBytes is designed so that encrypted data cannot simply be recovered without the required security material. Losing the necessary credentials may result in permanent loss of access to your encrypted files.
